My first out of state judging assignment, and it’s in California, with DART. You can’t get much luckier than that. Oh, wait, you can. I’m being supervised by Scott “Sparkles” Lovelis, and the other judge for the trial is Tom Kula. Talk about a wealth of knowledge and a fun show!
Judging all Starters classes, all Advanced classes, and both rounds in Steeplechase means a lot of runs, a lot of course maps, and a truly wonderful learning opportunity. Though, truth be told, the only thing that really freaks me out about judging is waiting for the course reviewers to send back my courses. I plan everything in advance, and submit my courses on time, so waiting to receive the reviews the week of the trial makes me a nervous wreck!
I’m sure, with time, I’ll get over it.
Overall, my first out of state judging experience couldn’t have gone better. I made my supervisor proud, heard a lot of GREAT reviews about my courses, and I can’t wait for my next assignment.
Oh, and I was inspired by Scott:
Sparkles!
